  1. SIP implementation

Users should be able to sign in with a SIP account and make and receive voice calls through it and maybe even transfer it internally. It's important for customer services calls.

Video call is only a nice-to-have feature.

And admin needs to be able to assign a SIP account to a user.

It should be rather easy to implement since there a lot of SIP clients out there.

  2. Limit number of times animated emoji will loop

When users have their mattermost window open all the time, animated emoji that are endlessly looping can be very distracting and annoying. If they paused after looping a set number of times, it would greatly improve the user experience for me.

  3. Make search work as it should.

Currently, search is horribly broken for technical conversations. For example, given a post which contains a log message, such as:

PROBLEM srvnagios at 10.4.1.74/MYSQL_threads-connected is WARNING

A search for MYSQL will not show this as a result. This is, certainly, just an example and it's been relayed that this is by design due to a lack of support for preceding wildcards (which shouldn't be needed anyway). Simply typing MYSQL in the text box should return any string that contains MYSQL or mysql.

  5. Separation of sent and received chats

    Hello friends
    Annoying enters

One of the things that can greatly increase the beauty and efficiency of the program
Separation of sent and received messages
Like WhatsApp and Telegram messengers where the sent messages are displayed on the right and the received messages are displayed on the left
And the username is displayed on the same side

  6. Map Lync/Skype for Business user presence to Mattermost

    Hi,

We use Lync/Skype for Business as the primary communications tool at my company, but for small project/team communications we use a self-hosted Mattermost server, because it's obviously 9000 times better than SFB.

However, Mattermost (especially the desktop client) does not integrate very well with Windows regarding the user's presence.

    Short Scenario:
If I lock my computer, SFB immediately sets my presence to Away, meanwhile Mattermost doesn't.

On the other way around, if I minimize the Mattermost Desktop client to the tray, and I have an other application running on full-screen, after a short period, Mattermost goes to mark…

  7. Asynchronous uploads (that do not block chatting)

Right now, when you upload a larger sized file you are blocked from chatting until the upload finishes.

It would be nice if the upload is handled separately so you can continue sending new chats while the upload is processed. Slack does this too.

  8. Add user profiles and text boxes

It would be great if there was a way to expand profiles to include boxes where users could host information. This might include: location, about me, skills, experience, links to external sites and portfolios, or active tasks engaged with. If there is already a way to do this it would be great to know. Thanks!

  9. Restricted channels with a join policy

Currently all you can have in Mattermost is public channels (joinable by everyone in the team) and private channels (not visible in any listing, and you need to be added).

The problem is that sometimes you want to have a private discussion where e.g. everyone from the IT department is allowed to participate. Currently you would have to add your whole department to such a channel (which is spammy, especially since you cannot hide any channels from your sidebar without leaving them).

It would be nice if it was possible to mark a channel as restricted. Such a channel would…

  11. Email notification for any activity (without mention)

    Currently, the notification system allows:

    • Getting browser desktop notification for any activity
    • Getting email notification for mentions

I'd like to have the mix: get email notification for any activity when I'm not logged-in. Many systems allow this (eg. gitter's "You have unread messages" emails), but I couldn't find it in Mattermost.

    Ideally, the system would :

    • Wait a few minutes before sending the notification, to send a mail containing several messages at once.
    • Send only one notification even if there are further messages, to avoid flooding the mailbox with tons of emails

This would be very useful to follow low…

  12. System Administrator: Ability to Import Users via CSV / Excel File

While system administrator are limited to only have the following methods to create / import users:
    * Local users: mattermost user create CLI, direct invite, team invite link
    * External users: LDAP / AD / SAML

It will be good to have the ability to use CSV or Excel file to bulk import the users with specific formatting especially if the organization has a lot of customers and is not utilizing AD / LDAP / SSO.

  14. make administrators get a notification when new channels were created

When users create new channels, there currently seems to be no notification emails send to administrators neither when a new channel is added nor who this channel added. This prevents administrators from being informed proactively about misbehaviours of users (i.e. if users create non corporate/private information exchanges on the system). A moderator feature would be very appreciated to help the IT securing itself and not having to explain the CEO why there is a public channel for exchanging illegal content, for example.

  15. Add ephemeral chats

Implement ephemeral chats. Useful for one-off topic discussions that may intersect users who do not all participate in a common room and for topics that don't fit existing rooms. There would be a simplified creation process (no topic, no purpose, invite users as the first action), generally more like Direct Messaging. It should also be possible to add/remove people from the conversation and promote it to a real room at some point. Maybe I just want to talk with a group of colleagues about dinner tonight...

    Benefits:
    - Quick
    - No competition for room names
    - Possibly allow them to…

  16. filter channels/users in the sidebar

It would be fantastic to have the option to search/filter in the sidebar.
In big organizations where you talk to many people, sometimes the sidebar gets enormous. A search field in top of the sidebar will allow to filter it and also search (when pressing Return)

It "should" keep the headers (favorites, channels, users) to keep it simple.

  17. allow users to 'follow' others to create a filtered feed view.

Currently we have an in-built equality of posts which can become inefficient with high volume.

Recognizing the importance of hubs in scale-free network growth, we could allow for a filtered view of the main town-hall feed, where you just saw the posts (and related threads) of those you choose to follow.

One could also toggle back to the unfiltered view, but allowing people to cluster could make high volume teams more manageable.

Unlike Facebook, the user would remain in control - with no algorithm and the ability to toggle back to the unfiltered view.

  18. Team specific position

Sometimes we don't have the same position in different team. Maybe it would be interesting to be able to have different position depending on the team, and not one position per account.

  19. User should be able to archive a thread

    Summary (Feature Request)

As a Mattermost user (Manager/Admin of channel)

I would like to close some discussion which is not needed anymore in the main channel (have been resolved)

so that I can reduce the content noise in the channel content in the channel by displaying relevant content.

    Observed behavior (that appears unintentional)

In any channel where there are a lot of people, there is always much noise. I would like to archive those threads which are not needed anymore and display the relevant content in the main view.

Usually, it might be discussions which end with some result/agreement, but…

  20. Add an API for getting private channels

As a system admin using the API, it would be useful to get a list of private channels for a team.

Currently, one can get posts for private channels through the channels/{channel_id}/posts API, but that assumes that the admin knows the channel_id. Finding that ID cannot be done through the API.

Use case: for reporting purposes, we want to get the count of messages per private channel each month.
