  1. Administrator should be able to change the profile settings of an user

An Administrator should be able to change the profile settings of an user (i.e. changing the user picture, user Name or first/last name)
Also, an administrator should be able to prevent users from being able to changing these options. (policies)

  2. Auto/Periodic Refresh of Channel Header

Some users find themselves navigating through multiple channels quite frequently; while others find themselves "squatting". My team happens to be full of the those that squat largely because we use one channel per project, and one build per project. We'd like to include the build shield/badge images into the header (which is currently possible); however, since the channel header is never refreshed, individuals must rely solely on messages within the channel to bring the current build status to their attention.

Either adding an auto-refresh to all channel headers, or allowing administrators to selectively enable a channel header for periodic update/refresh…

  3. Add better filters/search for messages and attachments

    1. Have a panel in the sidebar (similar to Slack) to view all available files/your files for the team/channel. Filters by file type and being able to search the filename would also be nice.

    2. Have additional search filters (again similar to Slack) such as the time/duration or the has: qualifier (e.g. has: link)

  4. Channel URL should be percent-encoded in UTF-8 for non-English characters.

This is from GitHub issue : https://github.com/mattermost/platform/issues/5010

When creating a new channel, English characters in name field can be auto converted into URL name, but non-English characters (e.g. : "é") can't not be converted into URL and will be skipped.

If I input "Résumé" in the channel name, the URL will be "/rsum", and "é" is skipped.

For non-English characters, they should be percent-encoded in UTF-8, like how wikipedia does.

E.g. : URL of Résumé page in Wikipedia is : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%A9sum%C3%A9
    ("é" is encoded into %C3%A9)

This feature is important for non-English users, If a Chinese language user wants to…

  5. Make search results accessible via a URL

It would be handy if search results were dereferencable via a URL.

Not all communications in our org are done via MatterMost (email is still popular) and I would like the ability to link to search results via a URL such as https://mattermost.org.com/search/search-term

This would enable me to refer to (ever-changing) search results from places external to MatterMost.

  6. Define Global Custom/Default Themes

Currently the default themes available to users are hardcoded in the mattermost source. I would love to be able to define a default theme with a particular color scheme that differs from what is available in the base Mattermost install.

  7. Create a Sandstorm app

Mattermost seems to be a good candidate for making a Sandstorm app. Sandstorm https://sandstorm.io/ allows for secure bottling of web-apps. Many of the apps currently in the ecosystem are complementary to Mattermost - in function and ideology.

  8. For file storage, add support for Google Cloud Storage

For users who don't want to or can't use Amazon S3 or local filesystem, adding support for Google Cloud Storage improves the "Cloud portability" of Mattermost, in addition to supporting more use cases.

  10. Ability to customize the site favicon

When a user interacts with several Mattermost instances having always the same favicon can get highly confusing.

With versions pre-3.0 it was fairly easy to directly change the favicon files on the installation. It looks way more complex since the 3.0 came out as the file names are no longer predictable

  11. Improve team viewing

If I am a member of multiple teams I can't see all the chats in one place. I need to switch between teams to use them. It would be much better if I could see all channels/chats for all my teams on one screen.

Perhaps this could be achieved by having a collapsable menu for each team on the left that contains all the existing team specific functionality like channels etc. This would also help improve the notifications when receiving messages from multiple teams.

  13. Support gitlab avatar

When a user signup using gitlab sso, it would be nice if mattermost imports the avatar image as the user's profile picture.

  14. Message automatic deletion a la snapchat

I'm trying Mattermost on a large organization as a professional communication tool surrounding but not overlapping formal previous communication tools that will remain (email, business specific tools, etc). To achive that, Mattermost messages are meant to be sended/received, read, and then expire and dissapear. We don't need a new static, searchable communication tool (yet on steroids), but a volatile one in order to support teams internal dynamics, but not to remain logged.
I've thougth of a sort of bot checking times been read or time from post on every message and deleting on checking pre-defined conditions, but this would be…

  16. Add Ability to allow webhooks in private channels

Add a control to allow webhooks to work in private channels. A per webhook control would be best, but an all or nothing would be a good start.

  17. Out-of-office responder

Add ability to set an "Out of Office" message so when users mention someone who is away, they'll be notified that they're unavailable.

Note: This ticket does not include changing to status message, which will be included in a separate design.

    1. Add an option to Account Settings > Notifications called "Away Message"

    Title: Out-of-office Message
Help Text: Set an automated out-of-office message to notify people mentioning you that you area not immediately available. Sent at most once every 4 days to same person who mentioned you.

    UI:
    Send the following "Out-of-office Message":
    [ E.g. "I'm traveling until March 2, 2016.…

  18. Add ephemeral chats

Implement ephemeral chats. Useful for one-off topic discussions that may intersect users who do not all participate in a common room and for topics that don't fit existing rooms. There would be a simplified creation process (no topic, no purpose, invite users as the first action), generally more like Direct Messaging. It should also be possible to add/remove people from the conversation and promote it to a real room at some point. Maybe I just want to talk with a group of colleagues about dinner tonight...

    Benefits:
    - Quick
    - No competition for room names
    - Possibly allow them to…

  19. Switch usage for "Write a message..." vs "Add a comment..."

In our use case, most posts are intended as replies to a previous post. So it would make sense that the default main view holds single topic/discussion, and the text box at the bottom is for posting replies to that thread, and a List of available topics are shown on the side, where you also can post new topics.

This is effectively the opposite of how the UI is laid out now. The background for this request is that most users (myself included) miss to post a reply as a comment, and mess up the conversation history (even a lot…

  20. System Admin should be able to force displaying of users real name (prename and surname! not nickname or username!)

In some environments it would be very usefull for the participants to be able to clearly identify a user. This is not necessarily the case, if nicknames (or even usernames) can be choosed by the users themself to be displayed in Mattermost channels.
Therefore an administrator should be able to force the displayed name to display the prename and surname within the chat history window to minimize an users anonymity. This may be also related to a forced disclosure of prename and surname during the registration process.
