  1. windows people

    Summary
Microsoft now supports pinning conversations within applications to the taskbar through what they call the My People API:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/contacts-and-calendar/my-people-support

It looks like it primarily supports windows store apps/c#, so it might not be possible to do with electron/node. It's also OS-specific, which isn't really beneficial to the app as a whole.

  2. Switch the status color indicator to the background of the icon

User icons are okay now on the left side list but would it be even more clear to switch the icon color to white and change the background color for the status? Please check the link for a demo:

  3. Open channels and direct messages in different windows (Desktop apps)

Right now we use Mattemost for communication about projects and Spark/Jabber/XMPP for direct messages. The reason we prefer Spark over Mattermost is that we can have each communication in a different app window and that makes it easier if you communicate with more people at once. Typical use case is that you send a question to your colleague and keep the window open until you get the answer.

  4. Use AppData/Local for cached data on Windows

For Windows all local Mattermost data is stored inside of %APPDATA% (AppData/Roaming).
This directory syncs between computers on every login / logout in certain corporate environments.

Cache data should be placed inside AppData/Local.

  7. CTRL+F performs a browser-like search in the desktop app

One missing piece in the desktop apps is CTRL+F browser-like search.

There is a plan to implement 'search in current channel' (https://github.com/mattermost/desktop/issues/305), but implementing the browser-like find feature is closer to the web app experience

There is existing electron APIs for finding something on the page: http://electron.atom.io/docs/api/web-contents/#contentsfindinpagetext-options

  8. Preprovision native client apps

As i'm rolling out the native Windows client to a lot of users (via windows software distribution) i'd like to be able to pre-provision the app with our mattermost servers url (and maybe other settings). It would be great if the client would support some way of getting it's initial configuration for example via a config file distributed with it.
I've posted it to the windows category but i guess this would be nice (and just as easy to implement) on every platform. Mobile apps might be more difficult though.
